J Lindeberg Clothing

The international appeal of Johan Lindeberg’s line of clothing for men and women stems in large part from his determination to combine his profound interest in sporting activities with his sense of high fashion.  During a motorcycle trip through Europe while still the marketing director of the Italian denim line Diesel, Lindeberg decided to strike out on his own.  In 1996 his first shows were launched in Stockholm and New York simultaneously, with no denim in sight.

Aided by endorsement from friends such as PGA tour championship golfer Jasper Parnevik, Lindeberg went on to become a major influence on golfing apparel worldwide.

His initial design concept was based on a kind of 60’s rock and roll look, and shows featuring outdoor wear, especially for golfers, began winning awards on the international scene.  In 1999 he was named “Designer of the Year” and the next year received the award for “Most Innovative Designer”.

In 2002 Johan and his wife Marcella moved to London to set up a base for the company’s international marketing, and brought out their new line of women’s clothing, taking the final step onto the centre stage of the fashion industry.  Around this time Johan also introduced his visionary concept for sportswear in the J. Lindeberg Future Sports line.  That line introduced new designs in both men’s and women’s wear as well as a totally new store design concept in the flagship store in Stockholm.

At present J. Lindeberg is continuing the expansion and modification of the entire collection, which includes a wide variety of apparel and accessories.  Johan himself chose to get out of the administrative side of the business so he could return to the creative niche that he favours.  In the restructuring of the company, Stefan Ingstrom, co-founder of Peak Performance, became CEO and Fredrik Dahl of The North Face line came on to direct the reintroduction of the J. Lindeberg Ski Collection.
