Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall Clothing

The Franklin & Marshall clothing line began almost incidentally when a company noticed the clothing of a college located in Lancaster, PA and liked the title of the school as a vintage item.  Soon after a college sweatshirt was seen bearing the school’s name, Franklin & Marshall the clothing line was born in Verona, Italy and shirts that resembled vintage items were soon mass produced with the school’s name on them.

Even though the birth of the line may have come as a coincidence, the Franklin & Marshall line experiences a great deal of popularity among many urban and trendy teens in the UK who flock to upscale shops to pick up the signature tees.  The logo of the company is simply the name emblazoned across the shirts.

The largest explosion in Franklin & Marshall fame came in 2001 when Tim McGraw purchased a shirt from the company and wore it in his publicity photos for his upcoming album one of which was included in the CD sleeve.  At this point the college contacted the clothing organization but instead of suing charged the company a licensing fee so they could get a cut of the sales as well.

Ironically, you will see the shirts in bookstore of the college as well as in department stores across the nation although many of the designs now leave out the ampersand choosing instead to keep it simple with just the name of the school.  You can easily recognize the distinct shirts by the logo appearing on a shirt that appears to be rusty in colour which is how the company achieves the old rusty look that youths cling to by the dozens today.  Outside of department stores, you can also find the popular tees at the Milan and Paris flagship stores.
